🍷 Drink Wines Not Labels — Nebbiolo
This is Alessandro Salvano’s Langhe Nebbiolo, made in Montelupo Albese, Piedmont, just outside the Barolo zone. The whole philosophy of DWNL is basically: forget the prestige label and drink the actual wine. Unwined
What’s interesting about this one:
- 100% Nebbiolo
- Organically farmed fruit
-
Around 80% whole-cluster fermentation
- Native yeasts
-
Aged in stainless steel
-
Bottled unfined and unfiltered, with minimal sulfur
-
The current 2023 has around 14% ABV. Leon & Son Wine and Spirits
What it tastes like
This is very pretty, fresh Nebbiolo rather than the stern, oak-aged Barolo thing.
Think:
🌹 rose petal · raspberry · wild strawberry · red cherry · 🪨 iron/earth · saline minerality · fine tannin
The 2023 is described as floral and red-fruited, with an iron-flecked earthy quality, clean acidity, fine tannins and noticeable salinity. Leon & Son Wine and Spirits
What I'd tell a customer
“It’s a really fresh, low-intervention Nebbiolo from Piedmont—rose, raspberry and wild strawberry, with this iron-y, earthy minerality and fine tannin. It’s elegant and light on its feet rather than heavy.”
Mental shortcut:
“Nebbiolo with the volume turned down: rose, red berries, iron, acid.”
And this is a nice bottle for someone who says “I like Burgundy but don't want a huge red.” It has that aromatic, lifted side of Nebbiolo without leaning into the power and oak of Barolo.
